Enriching the lives of young people through life-changing opportunities
Since 1859, the Army Cadets have delivered enriching, unforgettable experiences that help young people grow in confidence, skills, and character. To build on this life-changing work, they needed a new website to challenge outdated perceptions, highlight real-world impact, and boost recruitment.
Using insights gathered from an in-depth UX Audit, we got to work redesigning and rebuilding the Army Cadets website, creating a platform suited for long-term growth and enabling more young people to access the Army Cadets’ incredible offering.
The challenge
The Army Cadets website wasn’t doing justice to the impact of the organisation. Built on Craft CMS, it lacked the flexibility and scalability needed to support long-term growth. It was difficult to navigate and didn’t reflect the vibrancy of the Army Cadets experience. Most importantly, it wasn’t engaging the young people and adult volunteers it aimed to reach. This was going to be key in addressing to support ongoing recruitment of volunteers and cadets, and ensuring more young people feel inspired to join.
Despite the rich media available, stories were getting lost in a text-heavy structure, and too many visitors were leaving without understanding the real-world benefits of joining.
With this in mind, we were able to develop impactful solutions that aimed that could effectively tackle these key challenges and drive the organisation’s mission forward.

The solution
Firstly, we used the learnings from our UX Audit as a springboard for transformation. Starting from scratch, we designed and built a new WordPress website that was accessible, future-ready, and centred around user needs. This meant that users accessing the platform were going to get an engaging and frictionless experience that would inspire action.
We streamlined navigation, included clear conversion points, and developed a space for inspirational storytelling that utilised the Army Cadets’ powerful visuals. This ensured that it would speak directly to the aspirations of young people and their caregivers.
Ultimately, this project was about far more than building a new website. It was about equipping the Army Cadets with the digital tools they need to engage and inspire future generations. With a fit-for-purpose website in place, they can continue working to ensure that no young person misses the opportunity to build confidence, skills, and purpose through the Army Cadets experience.
