Since we eagerly kick-started our sustainability journey in 2018, we have had some time to reflect on our goals and achievements. Weâve certainly come a long way, and have learnt a lot on our journey so far! Looking back at our May targets, we see that we were a little ambitious and a bit haphazard to say the least. Since then we have refined our targets, creating more measurable and achievable goals for us to work on. Take a look at last yearsâ achievements and targets to see how far weâve come!
Here are a few of the changes we made in the studio to reduce our environmental impact and help to create a sustainable future. Flip the cards to find out more.
We are conscious buyers, choosing to shop with ethical, local brands wherever possible.
We only use FSC approved paper: We use FSC approved paper and only when completely necessary. Even our toilet roll is 100% recycled and comes in recyclable paper packaging.
We use 100% renewable electricity: We use 100% renewable electricity, 10% renewable gas and 78% of our light bulbs are LED. Each year we monitor and assess our energy usage and waste output to keep our environmental impact to a bare minimum.
We recommend printers who offer innovative recycled stock to our clients to provide them with the opportunity to reduce their impact, too.
We actively reduce our waste in accordance with our waste reduction policy. We send no toxic waste to landfill, we recharge our batteries, recycle our ink cartridges, and compost our teabags and coffee grounds â nothing goes to waste.
All of our cleaning supplies, down to our hand soap, are eco-friendly and plant-based which reduces our ecological impact. We buy products packaged in recycled materials which we recycle or refill to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill.
We provide our staff with two days off per year to volunteer for charities and organisations which matter to them.
All of our non-recyclable plastics get turned into Eco-bricks, turning waste into usable building blocks which are used to build green communities which benefit the community.
Weâre taking steps towards assessing and monitoring the social and environmental impact of our suppliers, and we provide supplier information including their location to all who ask.
Implemented a formal staff review process which includes social and environmental goal setting as well as personal progress reporting.
Replaced one petrol vehicle with an electric one, saving us 0.28 tonnes CO2E per year.
Have a look at the targets we set for ourselves in 2018. Weâve since updated them to make them more measurable, and still have a way to go to achieve them all, but a few weâve already managed to tick off our list! Itâs a journey and weâre making progress, one step at a time.
Grow our client list to encompass charities, NGOs, not-for-profits and like-minded businesses who work towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
To recycle 100% of the recyclable waste produced in the Studio by 2019 and to reduce the amount of single-use plastics we purchase by 50% by 2020.
To continue year-on-year reductions in waste arising from SR employees.
To collectively volunteer 220 hours per year to charities / causes which matter to us. By monitoring how our team use these 220 hours, we can have a clearer view of our contributions to the community each year.
To partner with our landlord to give our windows a bit of an upgrade, taking them from single to double glazed.
We aim to have a completely ethical and eco-friendly supply chain by the end of 2019, by choosing to invest our money in companies we believe in, and in companies who help make the world a better place.
We are firm believers here at SR in paying it forward, thatâs why we have amazing plans in the works to start sharing more of the industry secrets weâve picked up over the years.
To encourage participation in âMeat Free Mondaysâ to help keep our environmental impact low.
Turn off all of our computers over the weekend to save power and money.
Print all of our own collateral on recycled stock with plant-based inks and only if absolutely necessary.
Begin to offer sustainability services to our clients to help them reduce their environmental impact, too.
Replacing regular plastic refuse sacks with biodegradable alternatives to reduce the amount of non-degradable waste we send to landfill.
